Sundays and Tuesdays are busy evenings at Cariboo. Filled with peanut butter and jam sandwiches. Hundreds of them. That's what our volunteers make in order to share them with friends who live in the downtown eastside of Vancouver. On those nights our Canteen Van heads out with sandwiches, hot soup, beverages and baked goods. About 600 people per week find a friendly smile and filling meal with The Salvation Army.
But those who are hungry also live closer to home. And so we maintain an emergency food closet at the church so that people who come to us in need will not go away hungry. Our administrative assistant, Bev Bacon, takes on this role in addition to her regular work, as an act of service to our community.
We also serve our community through our Celebrate Recovery program.
